We went 2-1 on Friday with a terrible BAD BEAT on our 2* STRONG Rangers as they led 5-2 before Toronto erupted for 4 runs in the 8th inning off of the usually reliable Danny Coulombe (1.23 ERA entering the game) who could not manage a single out. Just pitiful. Fortunately, our 4* ELITE release on the Royals -1.5 barely eked by 3-1 behind another strong effort from Noah Cameron who held the White Sox to 1 run on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while the bullpen did the rest. Aaron Civale was solid for the White Sox but just not quite good enough on this night. He lasted 6 innings and limited the Royals to 3 runs on 8 hits. KC is desperately clinging to hope of a longshot Wild Card slot and, to have any shot, these battles versus the lowly White Sox are Must Wins. Our 3* VERY STRONG selection on the Brewers/Reds OVER was a “rocking chair” as the Reds bolted out to an 8-1 lead after 2 innings, only to see the ridiculous Brewers come all the way back for a 10-8 victory; their 13th straight win. Both starters were just awful. For Milwaukee it was Jacob Misiorowski coming off the injured list to last just 1.1 innings while being bombarded for 5 runs on 4 hits. For the Reds, starter Nick Martinez is likely still drinking whiskey after suffering the ignominy of spitting up an 8-1 lead. Martinez could not even get out of the 3rd inning after getting hammered for 5 runs on 9 hits. This Brewers squad, while probably barely ranking in the Top 10 in talent, seems to be a team of destiny this season. We’ll see? Adding 4.36 Units brings our rolling 170 day record to 242-182 for Plus 255.26 Units.

It’s never comfortable laying 1.5 runs with the Royals inconsistent offense, especially as a Top Play, but this situation warrants it. Starter Noah Cameron has been a revelation for Kansas City and should have enough to shut down the improving, yet still not good, White Sox attack. He enters this contest with a 2.52 ERA and, over his last 7 starts, has allowed just 10 runs on 36 hits in 41.1 innings. Aaron Civale has been all over the place this season, as his 4.91 ERA indicates, mixing in great starts with bombs along the way. Over his last 6 outings Civale has tossed 30 innings while allowing 18 runs on 25 hits. The Royals currently sit on the fringe of the 3rd Wild Card spot and we see an inspired effort tonight at HOME with a raucous crowd cheering them on. Cameron stays sharp and the Royals bats do enough damage versus Civale to secure the multiple run victory.
